Nellis Construction Ltd. has been in business since 1948, the following is a brief look at our history.
In 1948
Mansell Nellis operating out of his home farm near Acton, Ontario purchased a brand new Allis Chalmers HD5 track loader from Sheridan Equipment located in Leaside (Toronto), Ontario. That would mark the beginning of Nellis Construction Ltd. Mansell soon built a small fleet of loaders, dozers and dump trucks.
In 1956
Mansell purchased a cable shovel to work on some of the deeper excavations. Draglines were later added to the fleet as they were an effective way to dig ponds and work on the many projects that required excavating under water.
By 1964
Mansell purchased his first motor scraper. Discovering that earth could be moved more efficiently with scrapers than with loader and trucks, the number of motor scrapers quickly grew.
In 1980
having out grown the old family barn which was used as a shop to repair the machinery, a new office and shop was under construction to manage and maintain the expanding fleet.
During the 1980s
Nellis Construction purchased a large hydraulic excavator and off-road haulers. Realizing the versatility of the off-road haulers, these machines completed projects that were not suited for motor scrapers.
In 2006
Nellis Construction purchased their first GPS Survey System. Having the ability to set grades and perform topographic surveys became a necessity. A dozer equipped with a GPS Grade Control System soon followed.
Today Nellis Construction is still moving earth.
